Care of your Latex Clothing

Clothing made of latex is delicate and requires special care in storage and handling. Exposure of latex garments to heat, sunlight and moisture can cause the latex to turn white. Coloured and semitransparent latex may stain on exposure to metals, sweat and make-up. Bondinage does not accept responsibility for staining or distortion of latex as these processes are beyond our control. Always handle latex carefully - pulling on tight latex clothes too enthusiastically can leave permanent fingertip dimples and sharp nails or jewellery can easily puncture the fabric.

CARE OF LATEX
  • Always handle latex garments carefully. Pulling on tight clothes too enthusiastically can leave permanent finger dimples, and sharp nails or jewellery can puncture and rip the fabric.
  • Prolonged exposure to heat, sunlight or moisture will eventually weaken the fabric. It is essential, therefore to always store latex clothes in a cool, dark, dry place. It is preferable to use a UV blocking specialised spray that is widely available for latex care.
  • After wearing, latex garments should be rinsed in lukewarm water with a little soap or mild detergent, to remove sweat. Latex garments MUST only be washed by hand and thoroughly dried after before storing.
  • When dry, talc the inside surfaces lightly to prevent clinging while on the hanger.
  • Before attempting to put them on, skin tight garments such as catsuits, stockings, gloves etc. should be ‘talced’  liberally on the inside, or sprayed or coated with specialist latex dressing aid products. This will make them easier to slip into and thus minimise any risks of damage or tearing. We recommend the care of latex products we sell online.
  • Most people like their latex to look shiny. A good sheen can be produced with silicone spray, wiped on lightly with a lint free cloth (J cloth). The best product for this purpose is a PVC dressing, it is water-based and washable. Preferably use specialist latex care products that are now available on the market extensively or ones on our site.
  • To create a mirror-like sheen as seen in latex photography you must use a silicone spray, which is best sprayed over a surface already treated with pvc dressing. Please note that silicone spray remains tacky to the touch after application; it does not dry like wiped-on products. Spray only in a well-ventilated room and avoid contact with other fabrics.
  • Our glitter latex is a specialised and artisan handmade product and can be cared for in the same way as described above. It is highly recommended that a UV protecting spray is used on any swimwear items to help protect it.
  • Contact with copper and copper based alloys must be avoided as this will tarnish the latex. Certain beauty products and make-up can contain this and we cannot be held liable in this instance.
  • We recommend that you store your garments folded in a clean opaque plastic bag in a dark wardrobe.

Additional Care Instructions for Latex garments with metal fittings

Please follow the general Care Of Latex instructions above. But please note the following:-

For items with metal fittings, especially metal rings and D-rings used for lacing up leggings or corsets please ENSURE the garments are quickly and thoroughly dried after washing. Leaving them wet or damp can cause the metal to rust underneath and staining may occur around the area, or if the garment is folded, staining and rust could transfer.

After washing or any exposure to water or damp carefully towel dry the areas around the metal fittings and ensure the garment is very well dried out. Once dry ‘talc’ the garment liberally on the inside and hang in a dark place. Avoid folding garments with many metal fittings especially lighter colours as the latex touching the metal fittings could discolour over time.

This all helps prolong the life of your beautiful latex Bondinage garment.
